I got to chat with Betty Bangs and Patricia Aguayo who are curating the 3rd Annual Chicana Art Exhibition inspired by the Chicana Mujerista spirit that we all identify with.
"The art show is important because it gives the space for identity without compromise," Aguayo said, "We don't exclude anybody. Everyone is welcome to the celebration. We just want to honor what we do. We want to honor our roots and our identity."
During the show, sales from merch and accepted donations will go to fund permits and supplies necessary for a future mural by Aguayo in Chicano Park. The commissioned piece will occupy one of four walls in a new bathroom at the park. Aguayo's will be the only female work represented in the new project.
"Let's let them know what a woman can do. You can have all three walls, she's got one and she's going to make it go big or go home," Betty Bangs said of her friend. "I love bragging about her."
