We are looking forward towards some new music from Aaaron Nigel Smith. He is on a mission with a lot of focus and determination.

Aaron Nigel Smith will release his debut solo album In Our America, on his Aya World label, in partnership with Tuff Gong International, on March 8, 2019. With reggae songs that speak truth to today’s turbulent times, In Our America offers positive messages and inspiration for everyday activism. Songs from the the new album were performed on February 6th at the Bob Marley 74th birthday celebration at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica, as well as at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, CA, on February 23rd. On March 10 Aaron will appear at Wynwood Yard in Miami in a special album release showcase performance.

An educator and internationally touring musician known for the Emmy Award-winning PBS TV showBetween the Lions, Smith is also founder of 1 World Chorus, a nonprofit organization serving youth in the United States, Kenya and Jamaica. Currently based in Portland, Oregon, Aaron has produced and released five albums for children, including 1 World Chorus Celebrates Bob Marley in collaboration with Ziggy Marley’s Tuff Gong Worldwide. In 2017, Aaron was designated an Official Bob Marley Ambassador by the Marley Foundation. He has performed at venues ranging from Pickathon to Lollapalooza, with lots of schools and community groups in his regular touring schedule. This summer, he and his band will also perform at Wolf Trap Theater-in-the-Woods in Virginia.

Produced by Jubba White of Dubtonic Kru, In Our America is comprised of a collection of songs inspired by events in the USA and around the world. Aaron says, “I feel compelled to speak up about the state of our country and our world, especially political changes in the last two years.” This is the second album collaboration between Aaron and Jubba’s White Stone Productions. Aaron reflects, “It was a joy to work with the very talented Jubba White to create the sound for this project.” More Love, the first single & video from the upcoming album premiered on Reggaeville. A music video for Vision, the second single, premiered on Tuff Gong TV on February 1st. Another music video, Ring the Alarm, produced in Portland, will be released soon.

Aaron Nigel Smith has been a serious musician since age eleven. As a young boy, he performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Westminster Abbey & Essex Cathedral in England. Since then, he has performed professionally throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.

Today, Aaron is an award winning recording artist and prolific songwriter. His accolades come from a lifetime of outstanding achievements. Early in his career, Aaron worked as an inspiring teacher to children of all ages. In 2002, he founded the FUNdamentals of Music & Movement, a fun approach to music education for preschool children. He grew FUNdamentals into a national program and sold the program years later. In 2005, Aaron’s album, “Let’s Pretend,” won the NAPPA & IParenting Media Awards. Three years later, Aaron joined the cast of the EMMY Award winning PBS Kids show, “Between the Lions.”

In 2009, Aaron collaborated with Ziggy Marley on a Bob Marley kids record, “B is for Bob.” The following year, his album "Everyone Loves to Dance,” received a Parents’ Choice Award and gained recognition in People Magazine. That same year, Aaron and his wife Diedre, formed the non-profit 1 World Chorus with the inspiration to build bridges internationally through group singing. More than 5000 youth in Oregon, California, New York, Kenya & Jamaica have participated in 1 World Chorus programs. In 2012, 1 World Chorus released the album, “Welcome to the Village”, and once again received critical acclaim by People Magazine and USA Today. The project was recognized as one of the best children’s releases of the year and received a Parents’ Choice Award.

In 2013, the Right Brain Initiative and Young Audiences welcomed Aaron to their teaching artist rosters. Later that year, he was named Sunburst Teaching Artist of the Year. During that summer, Aaron launched the Rox in Sox Children’s Music & Book Festival. This one-day free charity event features some of the leading talent in the USA from the world of family music and literature. The festival has been held in Portland, Las Vegas and Jamaica, and has distributed thousands of socks, shoes and backpacks youth in the USA, Kenya and Jamaica. Two years later, in 2015, Aaron produced an album in collaboration with Ziggy Marley & Tuff Gong Worldwide featuring 135 singers from the USA, South America & Jamaica singing in celebration of Bob Marley’s 70th birthday.

Aaron’s immense talent and outstanding work recently resulted in being named an Official Bob Marley Ambassador by the Bob Marley Foundation. This designation provides an invitation to perform at the annual Bob Marley Birthday celebration at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica. Aaron remains focused on his simple mission to connect and empower children, families and communities through music.
