SM Familia shared the release of their sophomore album, The Journey So Far, in early September. The announcement of the long-awaited album has sparked interest in the bands unique style and creative venture. SM Familia’s new album demonstrates their well-known blend of reggae and Latin rhythms which continue to captivate new audiences. The Journey So Far was released on November 1st, 2019 and is now available on iTunes and all online platforms.
The Journey So Far is composed of 10 tracks which includes a dub version of their first single, Nada Te Falta, that features reggae legend Ranking Joe. The album contains conscious lyrics in both English and Spanish with a roots reggae cumbia sound that gravitates to man fans. SM Familia’s energy is guaranteed to keep you moving and this album is sure to meet all expectations.
Each song was written and composed by band front man Felix El Gato, however he shares that this was a team effort. Felix El Gato said that “SM Familia is a collection of some of San Diego’s most seasoned musicians who have all included their creativity to help create the album to what it is today.” He goes on to share how “each member has put their all into this album and we are so proud of how the music has evolved throughout the process.” The Journey So Far is bound to be one of San Diego’s best world music album this year.
